More Internets
Ok, first and most importantly, I got a new coffee tamp today. It is quite excellent. You see, the tamp that came with my coffee machine was Just Not Right. It was the wrong size and had an awkward top. This new one is the perfect size and much more friendly to use.
Dan and Will have pointed out the broadband plans offered by Ihug, so I thought it only fair to add a post that matches their offering with those in my previous post. So here it is:
40GB
Ihug Extreme*
Rate: 3.5M down / 512k up
Cap: 60GB (20GB peak, 40GB off-peak)
Price: $99.95
*I chose this plan for comparison because it works out cheaper than the 30GB plan + surplus
Ok, so on the surface it looks pretty good. It certainly is the best price and comes with an extra 20GB over the offerings from the other providers. And it gets better. According to the FAQ, upload data doesn’t count towards your cap. That is a Good Time.
The problem comes about with the separation of the cap into peak and off-peak components. Ihug regard peak time as from 8am until midnight. Now, because I wouldn’t be using the ‘net much in off-peak times, the 40GB off-peak data is not that useful to me. Ihug charge $5 per GB over the cap, so in order to make my peak cap up to 40GB for comparison with the other providers, I’d need to shell out an extra $100. Ouch.
This plan would be great for people in the habit of downloading large files overnight. In fact, filesharing in general would be pretty excellent on this plan as you’re not paying for upload data. But for me, at the moment, I’m still leaning towards Slingshot.
